Get up and running in under five minutes.

Create your account
Open the app, tap Sign Up, enter your email and a password. You'll need to be 21+ to use BarrelGuru in the United States. Verify your age once and you're in.
ii.
Add your bottles
Four ways: Wall Scan (point at a shelf, batch-add the whole row), Single Scan (one bottle at a time), Bulk Import (drop in a CSV from Distiller or Excel), or add manually from the catalog.
iii.
Explore the Guru
Tap any bottle for the full spec sheet. Open the AI Spirit Companion to ask questions about tasting notes, distillery history, food pairings, or anything else on your shelf.

Point your phone at a shelf or wall of bottles. The AI detects each bottle, identifies labels in parallel, and shows a confirmation grid. Catalogue 6 to 600 bottles from a single photo.
How to use it
  1. Tap the camera tab → Wall Scan
  2. Frame the whole shelf (front lighting, no glare)
  3. Tap the shutter → wait for the grid
  4. Confirm matches, edit any miss, tap Add All

  2. Pick a CSV — name column required, others optional
  3. Review the match preview (green = found, amber = needs you)

Manage your account.

Change your email or password
Settings → Account → tap the field you want to edit. Email change requires confirmation via the new address. Password change requires your current password.
Upgrade or downgrade your subscription
Settings → Subscription. Pro and Guru Class are billed via Stripe in your browser — no Apple / Google in-app purchase tax. Upgrades activate immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period; your data stays intact.
Cancel your subscription
Settings → Subscription → Manage Billing opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel any time. Your tier remains active through the end of the current period, then drops to Free. Cellar entries, photos, notes, and history are retained forever.
Export your data
Settings → Privacy → Export My Data. We email you a download link to a CSV of your cellar plus a JSON archive of your account within 24 hours.
Delete your account
Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. Triggers a 30-day grace window during which you can restore. After 30 days your account and all associated data are permanently deleted. See the privacy policy for full details.

What we collect, what we don't.

The short version below covers the basics. The full privacy policy is the authoritative document.

What BarrelGuru stores about you
Your email, password hash, cellar entries (bottles, photos, notes, ratings), scan history, chat history with the Guru, and basic device info for crash reports. That's it.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't share your cellar with other users unless you turn on a sharing feature. We don't use your photos to train third-party models. We don't run third-party ad trackers.
Payments
All billing is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe holds your payment method; we receive only the subscription status.
Age requirement
21+ in the United States. We self-attest age on first launch — you confirm via a checkbox. Misrepresenting your age is a violation of the terms.

What's in the BarrelGuru Library?
A curated catalog of bourbon, rye, scotch, Irish, Japanese, and rum. Roughly 5,000+ entries at launch and growing weekly. If a bottle isn't in the library, you can still scan it — the AI will identify it and you'll have the option to submit it to the catalog. Approved submissions become public to all users.
What if Wall Scan misses a bottle?
Confirmation grid shows you exactly what was detected. Tap any blank slot to add manually or to retake the photo. The AI improves with every confirmation you make.
Does the Guru know my exact cellar?
Yes — the AI Spirit Companion has read-only access to your cellar so it can reason about what you own when answering questions or making recommendations. You can disable this in Settings → AI Preferences.
Why are some features greyed out on Free?
Free is meant for cataloging — manual entry, Bulk Import, and 25 AI spec lookups per month. Wall Scan, Single Scan, and the AI Spirit Companion are reserved for Pro and Guru Class. Tap any locked feature to see the upgrade screen.
What's the difference between iOS and Android?
Feature parity. Same camera pipeline, same Library, same Guru, same pricing. iOS gets a few platform-specific affordances (Live Activities for low-stock alerts, Widgets); Android gets Material You theming. Functionally identical.
Can I share my cellar publicly?
Shareable collection pages are on the Layer 2 roadmap. Today the cellar is private — visible only to you.

Something not right? Try this first.

Wall Scan can't see a bottle
Re-frame so the whole label is visible and the lighting is in front of you, not behind. Avoid glare on the glass. If a specific bottle keeps missing, scan it as a Single Scan and add manually.
Scan says "Not in catalog"
Tap Add Anyway. You'll be prompted with what the AI inferred (name, distillery, proof). Edit anything wrong and save — the bottle lands in your cellar and a submission is queued for the public Library.
Bulk Import shows errors
CSV must have a name column. Optional columns: distillery, proof, age, quantity, location, notes, rating. The preview shows which rows the matcher couldn't resolve — edit or drop them, then re-import.
Guru chat says "Out of conversations"
You've hit this month's quota for AI Spirit Companion chats (Free 0, Pro 100, Guru Class 300). Quotas reset on the 1st. Upgrade in Settings → Subscription if you need more now.
Can't sign in
Tap Forgot password on the sign-in screen for a reset link. If the email never arrives, check spam, then email support@barrelguru.com from the address on the account.
Subscription didn't activate
Stripe checkout returns you to the app — the new tier shows up on the next AppState refresh, usually within a few seconds. If it sticks, pull to refresh in Settings → Subscription, or close and reopen the app.
App crashed or froze
Force-close and reopen. If the crash repeats on the same screen, email us with the device model, OS version, and what you were doing — we can usually patch within a few days.
Wrong fill level detected
Tap the slider on the bottle detail page and drag to the correct level. AI fill detection works best on clear glass with backlighting; dark bottles default to manual.

What we're already on.

A living list, updated as feedback comes in. If you hit something here, no need to re-report it — but more detail always helps. We group similar reports so one fix closes many.

Dense-shelf Wall Scans can be slow
Very full shelves take longer and can occasionally time out. Scanning in sections (a handful of bottles at a time) is reliable today; a faster sectioned scan is in progress.
A scanned bottle isn't in the Library yet
New bottles you add appear in your cellar immediately and join the public Library once approved. The Library grows daily as new spirits are discovered and verified.
Beta data may reset
This is pre-release software — cellar and notes can occasionally be reset during testing. Nothing is lost on purpose, but treat the beta as a preview.
