BarrelGuru is built for adult collectors of spirits. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to remove it. We want the answer to be boring — your data exists to serve you, not to be sold.
When you join our pre-launch waitlist on barrelguru.com, you give us your email address. We also automatically record the time of your signup, the page you came from, your browser's user-agent string, and an approximate IP address used for fraud prevention. While we migrate intake to our own database, submissions may also be processed by Formspree; that handoff will be removed once direct intake is verified.
Email address and a password (stored hashed by Supabase Auth, not by us). When you create a profile we also store your chosen display name, optional bio, optional ZIP code, and avatar image.
Every bottle you add — release, fill level, tasting notes, acquired date, photos — is stored against your account. You created it; it's yours.
When you take or upload a scan, the photo is stored in our private Supabase Storage bucket and analyzed by Anthropic Claude. The bounding-box crops of detected bottles may be saved as part of the spirits Library if you confirm an "Add to my cellar" — see Public contributions below.
Your chat messages with the AI companion are stored against your account so you can revisit history. The text of your messages and the assistant's responses are sent to Anthropic Claude for inference; Anthropic's data handling is governed by their commercial terms (not used to train models).
The "Find It Near Me" feature sends a one-time location request to your device. We store the coordinates only if you save a home location; otherwise the request is used in-memory for that search and discarded.
We log usage events — screens you visit, features you use, errors you hit — to a private analytics table. We log IDs and shapes (release ID, note length, has-rating), never the contents of private notes or raw photos. Telemetry helps us see which features are valuable and which are confusing.
When the app crashes, we collect a stack trace and basic device information (OS version, app version, free memory) via Sentry to diagnose the bug. We do not collect names, contents of your cellar, or your location with crash reports.
The website sets no tracking or analytics cookies. We use your browser's localStorage to remember your age-gate confirmation so we don't ask you on every visit. The app uses standard session storage for authentication. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or cross-site behavioral tracking. For aggregate site performance and traffic metrics we use Vercel Speed Insights (Core Web Vitals) and Vercel Web Analytics (pageviews, top pages, top referrers, country/device breakdowns). Both are first-party, cookieless, and do not produce per-visitor identifiers. The website loads typography from Google Fonts; Google receives your IP and user-agent as part of that font request — standard CDN behavior, not used by us for tracking.
We do not sell your data. We do not show third-party advertising. We do not share your cellar contents publicly unless you explicitly mark a tasting note as public (a feature shipping in V2.0; off by default).
When a scan adds a previously-unknown bottle to your cellar, the bottle, brand, and distillery records are created in BarrelGuru's shared Library so other collectors can find them. The bottle's name and basic facts become part of the public catalog. The crop of the bottle from your scan photo is stored under the bottle entry to help other collectors identify it visually. Your username or any personal information is not attached to these contributions.
If you don't want your scan crops to enter the public Library, you can choose "New to Library — keep private" when confirming an add (feature shipping post-beta).
We do not share with anyone else.

BarrelGuru is for collectors of legal drinking age — 21 in the US, 18 or older where local law applies. We confirm age on the website (this site) and in-app at account creation, and don't collect data from users below that floor.
If we change this policy materially, we'll notify you in-app (and by email if you're on the waitlist) and update the "Last updated" date at the top.
